The Timemore Chestnut S5 Pro puts a 48mm conical burr into a hand grinder built for pour-over. Timemore rebuilt it from scratch around a new burr, designed to give filter coffee more structure without losing clarity.
Even Grounds for an Even Extraction
The new patent pending TriB-048-I burr uses a 12-point pre-breaker that initially compresses/breaks each bean, so the main cutting edges receive smaller, more uniform fragments. The result is a tighter particle distribution, fewer fines and far fewer particles above 1300µm, the oversized particles that leave pour-overs tasting thin and under extracted.
Clarity with Body
Compared with the Chestnut S3, the S5 Pro brings more defined acidity balanced with sweetness, a fuller body and clearer layering. It is particularly suited to light and medium roast filter coffees.
Dial in and Stay There
Ninety clicks per rotation give 15 micron steps across the pour-over range of 5.0 to 8.0, so small changes to drawdown and taste are easy to make. The lens style external dial clicks firmly into each position and resists being knocked off its setting.
Fast, Comfortable Grinding
Pre-broken beans require less torque, so the 48mm burr grinds quickly with a light crank. The long folding handle, 30g cup and flared inlet make grinding a 30g dose for larger brews simple.
Not just for Pour Over
The burrs reach espresso fineness without rubbing at zero, so one grinder covers everything from V60 to espresso.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the TIMEMORE Chestnut S5 Pro good for pour-over?
Yes. Pour-over is where the TIMEMORE Chestnut S5 Pro excels. Its TriB-048-I burr produces a tight particle distribution with very few boulders, giving clean, well-defined cups with more body than the Chestnut S3. TIMEMORE recommends 5.0 to 8.0 on the dial, and the 30g capacity handles larger two-cup brews.
What grind setting should I use on the TIMEMORE Chestnut S5 Pro for pour-over?
TIMEMORE recommends 5.0 to 8.0 on the Chestnut S5 Pro for pour-over. Start around the middle of that range and adjust in single clicks: finer if the brew tastes sour or runs fast, coarser if it tastes bitter or drains slowly. Other starting points are 0 to 2.0 for espresso, 1.0 to 3.0 for moka pot and 8.0 to 9.0 for French press.
What is the difference between the TIMEMORE Chestnut S5 Pro and the Chestnut S3?
The TIMEMORE Chestnut S5 Pro uses a new 48mm TriB-048-I burr in place of the S3's 42mm burr, with a 52% larger grinding area and far fewer coarse boulders. In the cup it gives more defined acidity, fuller body and clearer layering, while the S3 leans cleaner and softer. The S5 Pro also adds a lens-style external dial, custom precision bearings, a crank knob 63% wider than the S3's and a flared inlet. Both share 15 micron steps and 90 clicks per rotation.
Is the TIMEMORE Chestnut S5 Pro good for espresso?
Yes. The TIMEMORE Chestnut S5 Pro grinds comfortably for espresso, with a recommended range of 0 to 2.0 on the dial. Its 15 micron steps give fine control for dialling in, and the burrs sit at a controlled gap of approximately 0.075mm at zero, so you can grind at the finest setting without burr rub.
How much coffee does the TIMEMORE Chestnut S5 Pro hold?
The TIMEMORE Chestnut S5 Pro holds approximately 30g of beans, enough for a large two-cup pour-over, a French press or a double shot of espresso.
What are the burrs in the TIMEMORE Chestnut S5 Pro made of?
The TIMEMORE Chestnut S5 Pro uses TriB-048-I burrs cut from a single piece of 420 stainless steel by 5-axis CNC machining and hardened to 58HRC. The patent-pending design combines compression, shearing and piercing in a 12-point pre-breaker for a tighter particle distribution and fewer fines.
How do you clean the TIMEMORE Chestnut S5 Pro?
Clean the TIMEMORE Chestnut S5 Pro with the included brush only and never wash it with water. Loosen the burr lock to remove the burrs, brush away retained grounds, then tighten the lock again. When locked, the grind dial returns to its reference zero point.
Is chirping normal at the zero setting on the TIMEMORE Chestnut S5 Pro?
Yes, some slight friction or chirping can be normal on the TIMEMORE Chestnut S5 Pro at zero. The burrs sit at a very tight gap of approximately 0.075mm, so if the grinder is put under significant sideways pressure they may briefly touch. During normal vertical cranking there is no burr contact.
